Zong, Pakistan’s leading cellular and digital services provider, has now expanded its footprint in Gilgit Baltistan by launching 59 new 4G commercial sites. This move marks yet another significant milestone in the region’s growing digital landscape.
The official launch, held at the prestigious Gilgit Serena Hotel on September 27th, drew attention from key dignitaries. Among those present was Mr. Ghulam Muhammad, Minister of Law and Tourism, Government of Gilgit Baltistan, who honored the event as the chief guest. Furthermore, the launch not only highlighted Zong’s success but also underscored the government’s commitment to supporting digital initiatives in the region.
As a part of this celebration, Zong revealed plans to further expand its network next year, emphasizing the importance of continuous growth. By strengthening its presence in Gilgit Baltistan, Zong aims to empower local communities with improved connectivity, while also fueling socio-economic development and driving tourism growth.
Moreover, the event welcomed several notable figures, including Miss Suraya Zaman, Advisor IT, Government of Gilgit Baltistan; Mr. Gul Abid Wazir, Zonal Director PTA Gilgit; Mr. Ehsan ul Haq, Assistant Zonal Director PTA Gilgit; Lt. Col. Muhammad Ali Ahmed, Commanding Officer of Special Communication Organization (SCO); and Riaz Ahmad, Secretary IT, Government of Gilgit Baltistan. Their presence further highlighted the strong public-private collaboration that is advancing digital infrastructure across the region.
Khawaja Shehzad Ullah, Zong’s Executive Director of Sales & Distribution, also took the opportunity to emphasize the significance of connectivity in Gilgit Baltistan. “We are excited to finally bring Zong 4G’s high-speed internet to this region,” he stated. “This launch clearly represents our unwavering commitment to bridging Pakistan’s digital divide. Through this expansion, we aim to empower communities, promote tourism, and contribute to economic growth, all while driving future development through advanced technology.”
In addition, Zong’s CEO, Mr. Huo Junli, shared his appreciation for the teams responsible for the successful expansion. In his message, he stated, “By enabling 4G services in Gilgit Baltistan, we are not only enhancing connectivity but also driving Pakistan’s digital transformation. This initiative amplifies our role in supporting the Belt and Road Initiative, as seamless communication is key to fostering economic growth, cross-border trade, and regional integration. Furthermore, Mr. Junli extended his gratitude to Zong’s strategic partners, including the Special Communications Organization (SCO) and Pakistan’s Telecommunications Authority (PTA), for playing a pivotal role in enabling the deployment of advanced communication networks in Gilgit Baltistan.
