Pakistan’s conversation around 5G must move beyond one question: How fast will mobile internet become?
5G is not simply another generation of mobile broadband. Its real potential lies in becoming a foundational infrastructure layer for a more connected and intelligent economy—linking people, machines, factories, hospitals, farms, transportation networks and cities.

Pakistan faces significant gaps in access to specialist healthcare.

“How many cities have 5G?”
Pakistan should ask:
“How much economic activity has become more productive because of 5G?”
7. The Road Ahead
Pakistan’s 5G journey should focus on four strategic priorities.
First, strengthen the foundation.
Accelerate fiberization, infrastructure sharing, reliable power, cloud and data-centre capacity, cybersecurity and affordable device availability.
Second, build enterprise testbeds.
Create real-world 5G environments in selected industrial zones, universities, hospitals, technology parks and logistics hubs.
Third, develop Pakistani use cases.
Local technology companies should be encouraged to build solutions for agriculture, manufacturing, healthcare, logistics, energy and smart infrastructure.
Fourth, scale what works.
Pakistan should pilot solutions, measure their economic impact and then expand successful models nationally.
The country should not become merely a consumer of imported 5G technology. It should aim to build a domestic ecosystem capable of developing locally relevant and exportable solutions.
