In a groundbreaking move, the UAE has made Artificial Intelligence (AI) a mandatory subject for all government schools—from kindergarten through Grade 12—starting in the upcoming academic year.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, announced the decision as part of the nation’s vision to future-proof education. “Our responsibility is to equip our children for a time unlike ours,” he stated on X (formerly Twitter), underscoring the need for forward-looking educational reform.
The Ministry of Education has designed a comprehensive AI curriculum that introduces students to essential concepts such as data, algorithms, machine learning, and real-world applications. Furthermore, it includes vital modules on ethics, data privacy, and algorithmic fairness to foster responsible AI understanding.
Unlike many other countries that offer AI education only as part of specific subjects or elective programs, the UAE stands out by making AI a nationwide, mandatory subject across all grade levels. This positions the country as a global leader in preparing students for a technology-driven world.
