Twitter Now Identifies Brands and Employees Differently

According to a news release from Twitter, Blue for Business is a subscription aimed at businesses who wish to “verify & identify themselves on Twitter.”

The program will enable businesses to link their primary accounts with their employees, making it simpler for them to demonstrate that their employees actually work for someone.

With “a limited number of firms,” which the company describes as including its own employees, it is now testing the service. Twitter’s director of product management, Esther Crawford, has a small bird badge next to her blue checkmark. This demonstrates that she is an organizational employee.

So far, Twitter hasn’t provided many specifics about the service. Blue for Business’s price, who qualifies, and how it will confirm that a company has an account are all unknowns.

More companies will be able to subscribe starting the next year, according to the company’s press statement. Twitter does note that not all platforms may offer Blue for Business capabilities. They “may vary from time to time.” Some of the features started to show prior to the announcement.

In order to monetize its Twitter Blue service, Twitter plans to add what is effectively an enterprise tier.

Movie stars will have logos next to their names, sports teams will join with their athletes, and journalists will receive badges identifying them as employees of specific media outlets are just a few examples of the potential for Blue for Business.
A grey checkmark badge for “government” and “multilateral accounts” has also begun to appear on Twitter. Perhaps it is already displayed on the @WhiteHouse account.
