The Xclipse 920 GPU is a feature of the Exynos 2200, which was created by Samsung in partnership with AMD. With the help of this system-on-a-chip (SoC), Samsung was able to go on to the next phase. It involves creating a unique GPU.

Custom GPU development is a widespread trend among businesses that specialise in smartphone chipsets, like Apple and Qualcomm.
The Exynos 2200’s built-in GPU, the Xclipse 920, was created using AMD’s RDNA2 architecture. The same architecture is anticipated to be used in the creation of a bespoke GPU. According to a tweet from Revegnus, although Samsung won’t be producing a stand-alone GPU and may need AMD’s help in generating an IP.

Samsung had been relying on ARM’s Mali GPU designs for several years prior to the Exynos 2100. But this is expected to change.

While ARM’s GPU ideas are admirable, Qualcomm and Apple’s initiatives show that closing the performance gap on Samsung’s end requires creating a unique GPU that is tailored exclusively for mobile devices.
The debut of this graphics processor is not imminent, according to Revegnus. And it could take at least three years.

If the timeframe is as stated in the rumours, Samsung may postpone the release of the custom GPU if it falls short of the company’s expectations. Although the Korean tech giant hasn’t been able to release its own smartphone chipsets. This goal is still achievable with the right skills.

In addition, the Exynos 2200’s Xclipse 920 chip surpassed Qualcomm’s most current Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in terms of ray tracing capabilities. This indicates that Samsung might be able to compete in this market.
