ISLAMABAD – Traversaal.ai has emerged as the winner of the prestigious Meta APAC AI Accelerator Finals in Singapore, securing a $100,000 grant for their innovative virtual tutor project, powered by Meta’s Llama technology.
“This groundbreaking solution delivers high-quality educational resources in both English and Urdu, showcasing Pakistan’s exceptional talent while addressing crucial challenges like educational inequality,” a message from Singapore on Friday revealed.
The competition also recognized runners-up from Indonesia and New Zealand, further highlighting Pakistan’s growing influence in technological innovation and AI solutions, positioning the country as a rising leader in the global digital economy.
Minister of State for IT & Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, lauded the win, stating, “Traversaal.ai’s success at the Meta APAC AI Accelerator Finals underscores Pakistan’s role in AI innovation. Our government’s efforts to promote technological advancement are paying off, and initiatives like the Meta Llama Pitchathon demonstrate our commitment to empowering local talent and positioning Pakistan as a global tech hub.”
Ignite’s CEO, Adeel Aijaz Shaikh, echoed the sentiment: “Traversaal.ai’s victory reflects the remarkable potential of Pakistan’s tech landscape. At Ignite, we are dedicated to supporting visionary projects that drive technological progress and address societal challenges. This win reinforces Pakistan’s capacity to lead in the AI sector and strengthens our journey toward establishing ‘Tech Destination Pakistan’ on the global stage.”
Earlier this year, Pakistan made history by hosting Asia-Pacific’s first Meta Llama Pitchathon at Ignite – NICAT. This landmark event was pivotal in putting “Tech Destination Pakistan” on the global AI map, backed by strong government support.
The Pitchathon, which kicked off on July 19, 2024, attracted 112 submissions. After a competitive selection process, seven teams were shortlisted by e27 and Meta officials to present their ideas in the final round on August 13, 2024, before a panel of distinguished judges. The projects were rigorously evaluated based on technical feasibility, potential impact, and responsible AI implementation.
