Syed Aminul Haq also added that an AI policy is extremely important if one has to develop a strong economic system. The policy would be mostly focused on Pakistan’s digital system. He stated that AI and cybersecurity are two of the core pillars of the Digital Pakistan Policy 2021 that was launched earlier this year. The Minister further spoke in this regard saying that cybersecurity experts and AI professionals will be benefitting from the AI policy the most.
Pakistan came under one of the largest cyber attacks in its history this year. The attack was made on National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) which caused disruption of services nationwide and caused construction in payments and pensions for the public sector current and former employees. The National Bank had denied the loss of financial data, however, the it took the banks IT team a couple of weeks for complete restoration of services.

The launch of AI Policy is one of the many steps taken by MoITT that are part of the digital revolution in the country. The federal cabinet has already been made paperless as all official work now takes place on tablets and cell phones, adding that MoITT is now working to make parliament paperless.
