The first Bachelor of Banking, Finance & Technology (BBFinTech) program in the nation was introduced by the University of Waikato. A New Zealand-based academic institution, in response to the demand from the fintech industry for more graduates with the necessary capabilities.

Waikato is the best business school in New Zealand, ranking first in both business and economics. Also it is among the top 1% of business schools worldwide with Triple Crown Accreditation. The BBFinTech degree is positioned to close a skills gap. In order to enable graduates to act as catalysts for company innovation and progress.

Students will gain knowledge in digital finance, investment platforms, automated trading. Furthermore, they will learn about blockchain technology, cryptocurrencies, banking operations, financial markets, and cybersecurity.

They will also examine the rising trend of impact investing, in which investors put money into a successful company (like solar energy or forestry). That tries to meet environmental or social goals while simultaneously making a profit.

“Digital technology powers the finance industry,” stated Matt Bolger, pro vice-chancellor of the Waikato Management School. Everything depends on digital, from payment methods to investing platforms and virtual currencies. However, as of right now, no undergraduate program in New Zealand acknowledges the necessity of these dual competences.

BBFinTech will bridge this vital skills need. Graduates will support companies in their ongoing innovation and development. Whether they are Silicon Valley startups or regional champions from New Zealand. Next year, we are eager to welcome our first group of students.

    Future Abilities
“We anticipate this area growing,” University of Waikato alumni Shane Marsh said. In addition, he founded the well-known finance business Dosh. “We appreciate that the University of Waikato has taken steps to meet these demands with their new BBFinTech degree, as the finance sector will need many more people with these abilities in the future.”

“There is an urgent demand for financial technology professionals who have the ability to shape banking services’ future,” he said. “We need people who understand how emerging technologies, like digital money, work. And open banking will shape the future solutions we seek for both domestically and internationally.”

Further he  continued, “This is definitely a path to consider for students interested in tech who want a career in an exciting sector, as there is huge growth potential in this area.”

In conclusion, The University of Waikato’s pioneering BBFinTech program is set to fill the growing skills gap in the fintech industry. This unique degree equips students with essential knowledge in digital finance, blockchain, impact investing, and more.

With digital technology driving finance, BBFinTech graduates will play a pivotal role in fueling innovation. Also playing vital role in the development for companies worldwide, making it an exciting career path with significant growth potential.
