LUMS, in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan, World Bank, and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), hosted the 2nd Symposium on Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) in Pakistan. This year’s focus on ‘Accelerating the Electric Mobility Transition in Pakistan’ brought together senior leaders, policymakers, academics, and industry experts.
Featuring distinguished speaker sessions and panel discussions, the symposium delved into the progress, challenges, and pathways for electrification of transportation in alignment with global trends. Simultaneously, critical topics included the Electric Vehicle (EV) landscape in Pakistan, international best practices, and industry perspectives on demand, supply, charging, and financing.
Furthermore, the event also showcased an exhibition of EV-related products and services, serving as a pivotal platform for dialogue and collaboration between government and industry on the BEV value chain.
Dr. Shakeel Sadiq Jajja, Chair of the Symposium and Associate Professor at the Suleman Dawood School of Business, LUMS, emphasized the rising prominence of BEVs globally and their environmental benefits, highlighting the opportunity for new supply chains and industries.
Moreover, Ms. Jen Jungeun Oh, Practice Manager, Transport, South Asia, at the World Bank, emphasized the need for concerted action to catalyze EV adoption in Pakistan, particularly focusing on electric two and three-wheelers and electric buses, while Mr. Zeeshan Sheikh, IFC’s Country Manager for Pakistan and Afghanistan, highlighted IFC’s commitment to supporting the private sector and the Government of Pakistan in fostering an enabling environment for enhanced adoption and investment in BEVs.
The event underscored the commitment of LUMS, HEC, the World Bank, and IFC to fostering innovation and addressing societal challenges through collaborative efforts, aiming to pave the way for a greener, more sustainable future for transportation in Pakistan.
