    IT Minister Emphasizes Fiber Connectivity as Crucial for 5G Launch

    On Tuesday, a crucial discussion on broadband fiber connectivity was conducted in the Ministry of IT, presided over by Federal Minister of IT and Telecom Dr. Umar Saif.

    Officials from the IT Ministry and officials from telecom firms attended the conference. Various alternatives for enhancing broadband connectivity via fiber in the country were reviewed during the discussion. Furthermore, the challenges to fiber connectivity were also highlighted in the conference.

    According to sources within the sector, telecom companies applaud Federal Minister Umar Saif’s and SIFC’s efforts to resolve right-of-way issues. Telecom company executives emphasized the difficulties encountered following the implementation of the Railways RoW policy.

    The telecom providers informed Caretaker Federal Minister of IT Umar Saif of their challenges in working at the railway crossing. Railway crossing fees are also exorbitant. Moreover, there are issues with digging for fiberization at the crossings.

    According to reports, the corporations also brought up the issue of Appropriate Governments’ Right of Way rulings being implemented. Umar Saif, the caretaker Federal Minister of IT, has requested information on railway crossing across the country. He also requested a report on the implementation of the right-of-way judgments.

    Dr. Umar Saif, Caretaker IT and Telecom Minister, addressed the meeting, saying that the government’s objective is to enhance fiber connectivity in the country, and that hurdles are being removed. He stated that fiber link with towers is required for the debut of 5G.

    Dr. Umar Saif, Caretaker Federal Minister for IT and Telecom, stated on social media sites, “Every 10% rise in mobile broadband adoption results in a 0.5-0.8% increase in GDP. As a result, in order to assist our economy flourish, we must incentivise broadband fiber connectivity across the country.”

    “In the last several weeks, we have been standardizing right-of-way policies for ISPs and telecom players,” he stated. He went on to say, “It’s an honor to take over a meeting of the telecom industry to create rules that will increase broadband fiber connectivity in the country.”
