Today marks the launch of Innovate47, a new program designed to empower Pakistani entrepreneurs in tackling climate change. This three-month virtual experience aims to equip participants with essential skills and resources necessary to develop and launch sustainable ventures that positively impact the environment.
William Bao Bean, Managing General Partner of Orbit Startups, emphasized the importance of driving sustainable economic transformation in Pakistan: “As Pakistan undergoes a technology-driven economic shift, it’s crucial to ensure this transformation is sustainable to safeguard the environment alongside economic growth.” Sarah Munir, CEO of Invest2Innovate (i2i), stressed the urgency of developing localized climate solutions: “Creating sustainable climate solutions tailored for Pakistan is more critical than ever. Initiatives like Innovate47 are essential for identifying and nurturing the next generation of climate leaders in the country.”
Pakistan is already witnessing severe impacts of climate change, such as rising temperatures, increased heatwaves, unpredictable rainfall patterns, and the melting of Himalayan glaciers, exacerbating water scarcity. Innovate47 aims to address these challenges by empowering entrepreneurs to innovate solutions specific to Pakistan’s climate realities.
Supported by a consortium of organizations including the National Incubation Center Islamabad, Invest2Innovate, Change Mechanics, National Incubation Center Faisalabad, and Orbit Startups, Innovate47 will offer workshops covering clean technology, sustainable business models, climate change mitigation, and adaptation strategies. Moreover, participants will benefit from expert mentorship, peer-to-peer learning, and access to resources like funding, legal advice, and industry connections.
Additionally, Innovate47 introduces an “Intrapreneurship Program” tailored for corporate employees passionate about sustainability. This program guides participants in developing and implementing green solutions within their organizations.
Applications for the inaugural cohort of Innovate47 are open until July 31, 2024. Furthermore, the program encourages entrepreneurs with diverse ideas, ranging from clean energy and sustainable agriculture to disaster management, sustainable fashion, emission reduction, and waste reduction strategies.
