As part of the government’s efforts to tackle the growing issue of plastic. The first of its kind Plastic Reverse Vending Machine (RVM) was unveiled in the capital by the Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Climate Change, Malik Amin Aslam. The machine which was fixed by Pepsico was unveiled on Saturday at the famous “Jinnah Super Market” in the capital.

RVM is simple to use. Moreover, it has made it possible for people to recycle their plastic bottles on the go. One has to simply press the start button on the touchscreen. This will enable the RVM to open a slot for the plastic bottle. Once the bottle is deposited the RVM will compress it and store it for the next steps of recycling.

The government has been actively involved in recycling projects that come under the “Prime Minister’s Clean Green Pakistan Program”. Earlier this year, the company announced the country’s largest plastics collection and recycling project under the Prime Minister’s Clean Green Pakistan program. It was also announced under the same program that the existing targets for plastic collection would be doubled. A total of  10,250 tons of plastics is to be collected by the end of 2021.

“All of us will have to work together to truly address the plastic issue. The RVM machine is a way of making that connection with the public and encouraging them to recycle.” – Malik Amin Aslam
