Karachi: Engro Holdings Limited, one of Pakistan’s largest conglomerates, has appointed Abdul Samad Dawood as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The announcement, made via a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Monday, follows the Board of Directors’ (BoD) approval during their meeting on January 3, 2025. Abdul Samad Dawood takes over from Mohammad Shamoon Chaudry, whose leadership and contributions were acknowledged with deep appreciation by the Board.
“The Board sincerely appreciates the invaluable contributions made by Mohammad Shamoon Chaudry during his tenure as CEO,” the notice stated.
About Abdul Samad Dawood
Abdul Samad Dawood, a seasoned executive with over 20 years of experience in management and corporate governance, currently serves as the Vice Chair of the Board of Dawood Hercules Corporation, the investment arm of the Dawood Group. He holds an economics degree from University College London, UK, and a certification in corporate governance from the Pakistan Institute of Corporate Governance.
Dawood has played a key role in several high-profile mergers and acquisitions within the Dawood Group, such as the acquisition of HUBCO from National Power International Holdings in 2012, the sale of DH Fertilizers to Fatima Fertilizer Company in 2015, and the merger of Engro Foods with Royal FrieslandCampina. He also chaired the Board of FrieslandCampina Engro Pakistan.
In addition to these roles, Dawood actively serves on the boards of several organizations, including the Pakistan Business Council (PBC), The Dawood Foundation, Karachi School of Business and Leadership (KSBL), Cyan Ltd, Dawood Lawrencepur Ltd, and Reon (Pvt) Ltd. He has also held CEO positions at Dawood Hercules Corporation Ltd and Cyan Ltd and is an active member of the Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO).
Dawood’s appointment as CEO marks a significant step for Engro Holdings Limited as it aims to strengthen its leadership in Pakistan’s business landscape under his guidance.
