In a significant development for Pakistan’s thriving technology and startup scene, Ignite National Technology Fund, a company under the Ministry of IT & Telecom, signed an agreement with Pakistan Services Limited (PSL) – Hashoo Group.

The consortium, led by PSL, includes Fauji Foundation, Telenor Pakistan, Change Mechanics, CyberVision International, and Founder Institute. They will manage the National Incubation Center Islamabad for the next 5 years.

This initiative demonstrates a collective commitment through public-private partnership to strengthen Pakistan’s startup ecosystem. It focuses on nurturing technology startups to boost the country’s economic GDP and provide employment opportunities for its youth.

In his welcome address, Adeel Aijaz Shaikh, CEO of Ignite, highlighted the overall impact of Ignite’s network of National Incubation Centers. These centers have incubated over 1480 startups, creating more than 188,000 direct and indirect jobs. They’ve attracted committed investment of Rs. 23 Billion and generated revenue of Rs. 16 Billion so far.

Speaking about the success of NIC Islamabad, Adeel mentioned that since its inception, it has incubated 295 startups, including 136 female founders. These startups have created 23,597 direct and indirect jobs, generated revenue of 7.05 billion rupees, with a committed investment of 7.88 billion rupees.

NIC Islamabad aims to build upon its success by offering enhanced services to empower startups. These services include state-of-the-art workspaces, access to venture capital, mentorship from industry leaders, UI/UX design labs, makers spaces, and a focus on key technological sectors such as Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, Robotics, Health, and Augmented/Virtual Reality.

Special emphasis is placed on creating investment opportunities for startups. The consortium and its supporting partners include leading incubators, accelerators, and venture capitalists such as Founder Institute, Mass Challenge, International Accelerator, Loyal VC, Zayn Capital, Sarmayacar, 47 Ventures, FCD Capital, and Pak Launch.

NIC Islamabad will also focus extensively on building health-tech startups, with Aga Khan University and Hospital and Rehman Medical Institute Peshawar as core Health Track Partners. Additionally, there are over 10 renowned health institutions as supporting partners. Red Buffer will provide mentoring and support to Deep-tech startups as a specialized vertical.

Leading Academic Institutions are also part of the supporting partners, ensuring quality mentorship and access to University labs and specialist faculty. These institutes include GIKI University, Institute of Space Technologies, Foundation University, NUST Business School, Bahria Innovation Center, among others.

With the new management, NIC Islamabad represents a significant step forward in enhancing Pakistan’s digital landscape.
