ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar announced on Saturday that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is set to acquire shares in Pakistan’s Fauji Foundation, as part of ongoing economic cooperation between the two countries.
Speaking at a press conference reviewing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ annual achievements, Dar highlighted Pakistan’s proactive and principled stance on global issues, noting that it has earned recognition across multiple international forums.
He explained that the UAE’s investment in Fauji Foundation is expected to help settle a $1 billion liability, while an additional $2 billion loan could be rolled over to support Pakistan’s financial stability. Dar also expressed gratitude to Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and China for their continued support through loans and financial assistance.
On regional diplomacy, Dar emphasized Pakistan’s improving relations with Bangladesh, describing the development as a “major thaw” in bilateral ties. He noted that his recent visit to Bangladesh included extensive meetings with the country’s chief executive, foreign minister, advisers, political leaders, and student representatives, including Khaleda Zia and Jamaat-e-Islami members.
“An environment of goodwill has been created, and following the February elections, we will further engage with Bangladesh,” he added.
