Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) directs Twitter to promptly remove and block anti-judiciary, berating tweets & trends on the platform.
According to PTA any such content doesn’t fall into the criteria of “Freedom of Speech” instead its “Contempt of Court”. PTA has directed the internet platform to adequately respond and implement the requested action to avoid legal action.
“Twitter has particularly been informed that the presence of such content and trends does not come under the definition of freedom of expression and hence must be taken down instantly as ‘Contempt of Court’ is one of the categories that holds high priority for the Authority,” a statement issued by the PTA
However, it’s doubtful that, Twitter being the world’s leading social media platform will entertain any such request or warning as they ensures that the company operates within the ethical standards and laws of host country.
Meanwhile, PTA has issued a public service message to consumers that uploading and sharing of content on internet and/or social media platforms against the superior judiciary or which invokes contempt of the court is unlawful.
