The Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB), operating under the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, is gearing up to establish Pakistan’s inaugural Woman Software Technology Park (WSTP) at Women University Bagh, Azad Kashmir.
Spanning approximately 5,000 square feet, this park is exclusively designed to serve women in the technology sector, offering them a modern and secure workspace. Collaborating with Women University Bagh Azad Kashmir, PSEB has solidified plans for the WSTP’s development, with both parties reaching an agreement. PSEB has allocated 31 million rupees towards this initiative.
This pioneering initiative, led by PSEB, is in line with broader objectives to promote gender equality, empower women through technology, foster innovation and entrepreneurship, create employment opportunities, and drive local economic growth. By establishing Pakistan’s first women-only technology park, the project aims to provide women with equal opportunities in the technology sector.
According to PSEB, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the WSTP’s establishment will address gender disparities, promote innovation-driven economic growth, and facilitate sustainable development. Simultaneously, it will also address the pressing need for skilled professionals in the technology sector and bridge the gender gap within the industry.
Located in the remote regions of Bagh, Azad Jammu, and Kashmir, the area faces challenges due to limited access to resources and opportunities, including advanced technology. Moreover, recognizing these challenges, the establishment of the Women Software Technology Park at Women’s University of Bagh aims to address several critical issues.
In addition, the WSTP will offer a localized solution, eliminating the need for women to travel to urban centers for opportunities in the technology sector. The park will drive socio-economic development by creating jobs and enhancing local skills, going beyond logistical challenges.
Furthermore, with a track record of establishing 43 software technology parks in secondary and tertiary cities across Pakistan, PSEB underscores its commitment to fostering technological innovation and economic growth nationwide.
