KARACHI, December 18, 2024 – P&G Pakistan, Imtiaz Group—Pakistan’s largest retailer—and Akhuwat Islamic Microfinance have joined forces in an initiative designed to empower women micropreneurs through interest-free loans. This partnership aims to drive economic growth and foster gender equality by supporting women in marginalized communities.
By providing financial resources, the collaboration seeks to help women establish sustainable businesses, improving their families’ lives and creating a broader societal impact. The initiative features in-store activations and a donation-match program involving employees from P&G Pakistan and Imtiaz Group. The project is set to raise PKR 1 crore, transforming the lives of over 500 women and creating approximately 800 employment opportunities.
Consumers can contribute by purchasing Ariel, Pampers, Always, Gillette, Head & Shoulders, Pantene, and Safeguard between December 27–29, 2024. Proceeds from these purchases will directly support women entrepreneurs.
Ovais Ather Yousuf, CEO of P&G Pakistan, emphasized, “Our collaboration with Imtiaz Group and Akhuwat reflects our commitment to advancing gender parity. This initiative empowers women to achieve financial independence and contribute to sustainable economic development.”
Despite global advancements in women’s financial inclusion, Pakistan still lags behind. According to a World Bank report, women need better access to financial resources to launch and scale businesses. This program aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) #1 (No Poverty) and #5 (Gender Equality).
Umer Imtiaz, CEO of Imtiaz Group, added, “Empowering women entrepreneurs isn’t just about supporting businesses; it’s about creating a ripple effect that uplifts entire communities. By involving our customers, we aim to drive meaningful change and foster sustainable economic growth.”
Danish Aman, Chairman Council of Patrons Sindh at Akhuwat Islamic Microfinance, highlighted, “These interest-free loans not only provide financial assistance but also restore hope and social connections. Empowering women entrepreneurs enhances living standards and uplifts society as a whole.”
P&G Pakistan continues to champion equality and inclusion through its operations, advertising, and initiatives promoting women’s economic empowerment. This collaboration sets a powerful example of how partnerships can create lasting societal change.
