The National Cyber Security Policy which was released by the government this year is said to be fully implemented by end of June 2022. The policy is mostly focused on the detection and protection of any foreign threats to the country’s digital system and was approved on the 27th of July 2021. The implementation of this policy will help to control cyberattacks like the recent one on the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). An amount of 2 Billion has been allocated by the government to complete this project.

While speaking at the 13th International Information Security Conference, Dr. Muhammad Sohail Rajput, Federal Secretary (IT & Telecommunication), spoke regarding the cyber security policy,
“We are hopeful that the national CERT (Computer Emergency Response Team) will be in place by the end of the current financial year”
He also added,
“We have some sectoral CERTs including for financial, telecommunication, and power sector, but those are acting in silos. The national CERT will be responsible for the overall operational mechanism for integration of all sectoral CERTs into one body.”
The Federal Secretary (IT & Telecommunication) also added that a Data Protection Act And Clouds Policy is also underway and is expected to be released in the next 3 months. The Pakistan IT Sector is targeting a 75% growth in IT exports this year, whereas, the growth surge was 47% in the fiscal year 2020-2021.
