The National Information Technology Board (NITB) and The Pakistan Society of Interventional Cardiology (PSIC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases.

NITB commits to providing digital and technical support to PSIC for data preparation and research aimed at preventing heart diseases and treating heart attack conditions.

The MoU signing ceremony was attended by Caretaker Federal Minister for IT & Telecommunication Dr. Umar Saif, who emphasized the importance of embracing technology in healthcare and education sectors. Furthermore, he stressed the need for timely access to information to save lives and assured full support from the Ministry of IT in this endeavor.

Simultaneously, Dr. Umar Saif highlighted that the purpose of the MoU is to explore collaborative opportunities leveraging information technology to enhance and support the national heart attack treatment initiative.

Moreover, the MoU outlines various collaborative efforts, including:
    – Developing databases and apps for evaluating and analyzing STEMI/heart attack patients.
    – Establishing national protocols/guidelines for standardized care in participating hospitals.
    – Establishing a hospital network for providing PPCI and lytic therapy.
    – Implementing a referral system for pharmacoinvasive therapy and conducting ambulance and patient awareness programs.
    – Utilizing modern techniques such as AI to advance defibrillators and EKGs, and improve traffic signal control.

CEO NITB Dr. Babar Majid Bhatti and President PSIC Dr. Zubair Akram briefed the federal minister on the MoU’s implications, emphasizing its role in developing national networks and databases for timely patient treatment. Moreover, they highlighted the agreement’s significance in preventing primary and secondary heart attacks.

Additionally, they will launch social media campaigns to raise public awareness about heart attack symptoms, treatment, and preventive strategies.
