Pakistan’s Islamabad – The first case of Monkey Pox in Pakistan has been confirmed by health officials there. A 25-year-old Pakistani man who had recently arrived in Islamabad from Saudi Arabia has been diagnosed with Monkeypox.

The patient is under observation in a hospital in the capital. And contact tracing efforts are underway, as per a representative of the health ministry.  According to Shah, there is now no proof of localised mpox transmission in Pakistan. And there is little chance that the illness will move abroad from that country.

He continued by saying that a warning had been sent to provincial health agencie. And all national airports to ensure “surveillance, contact tracing, and rapid identification of suspected cases.”

After arriving in Pakistan on April 21, the patient was immediately placed in isolation, as per a senior official in the ministry.

Due to the patient’s severe illness, he was sent to quarantine in a hospital in Pakistan. Furthermore, tests were conducted to determine the cause, according to Kazi. He claimed that after cases of mpox were found in other nations, Pakistan enhanced security at all of its international airports. And sent out health specialists.

Moreover, the necessary logistical support, including gloves, disinfectants, and masks, among other items. They have been delivered to the trained crew that has been deployed at the airports, according to Kazi. “World Health Organisation (WHO) procedures, safety precautions, and ambulances have also been deployed.”

The Monkey Pox virus is the infectious disease that causes mpox, according to the WHO. Through close touch and droplets, the disease can be spread from infected animals to humans. As well as from affected individuals to others. A severe rash, fever, sore throat, and enlarged lymph nodes may result from it.

Furthermore, since the start of last year, more than 87,000 confirmed cases of mpox have been found worldwide, and more than 120 people have died as a result, according to the WHO. With more than 30,000 cases and 44 fatalities, the United States tops the list.

The first known human case of the Moneky Pox virus was a nine-month-old infant in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in 1970, according to the WHO. However, the mpox virus was found in Denmark in 1958. Before an outbreak was detected in the US in 2003, the disease’s transmission was limited, with only occasional cases being discovered in Central and West Africa.
