If you still have Windows 10, you may find yourself wanting to upgrade to Windows 11 at some point, if only to obtain a significant update for Microsoft Paint, which has been around for 38 years. Microsoft revealed a significant update to its most recent operating system during a presentation last week in New York, and it will be accessible to anyone using Windows 11 starting on September 26.
Version 23H2 contains around 150 new features, according to Microsoft, who boasted about the new release. This includes significant upgrades to Microsoft Paint. The popular program introduced in 1985 that, until recently, was struggling as a holdover from the past.
Microsoft has given Paint new life thanks to the advent of artificial intelligence (AI). The most recent update has added powerful features you might find on Photoshop and other pricey software programs, like layers, background detection, and even potent AI image creation with Paint Cocreator.
However, Microsoft is making a huge push for Copilot. A Windows-wide AI tool that will take the place of the long-defunct Cortana voice assistant as your primary virtual assistant. It can respond to voice or text commands and functions across Windows. Furthermore, it can also respond to other programs like Google Assistant or Siri. You can ask it to play music, enable dark mode, or rearrange the apps on your PC’s screen.
Copilot incorporates comparable AI tools that Microsoft just introduced with Bing, allowing you to ask it for writing assistance with anything from email composition to summarizing lengthy texts. In the future, it will also function as an assistant for Microsoft’s Edge web browser. And its Microsoft 365 software collection, which includes office essentials like Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
We’ll have to wait and see how well Copilot is in comparison to the fancy marketing before judging how well it performs in practice. In a demo, Microsoft even demonstrated Copilot building an Instagram Reel of holiday images with text and graphics in Windows, ready to publish to Instagram.

Microsoft, however, is hoping that you’ll be persuaded to splurge out. And use the new Windows 11 version on the gleaming Surface Laptop Go 3 or costly Surface Laptop Studio 2. The two recently released laptops that range in price from £799 to a staggering £2,069.
