Meta Unleashes Generative AI for Next-Level Ad Creation

Many tech companies are rushing to release generative AI technologies. And some businesses, like Apple and Meta, have remained mute. By the end of the year, the group lead by Mark Zuckerberg hopes to employ generative AI to create advertisements for various businesses.

In an interview with Nikkei Asia, Meta’s CTO Andrew Bosworth stated that the business anticipates releasing tools for AI-powered ad creation that allow businesses produce unique graphics for various audiences.

“[I] anticipate that some of them [the commercialization of the technology] will begin this year. The generative AI team was just formed a few months ago. And they are now highly active. Together with Mark Zuckerberg and [Chief Product Officer] Chris Cox, it’s probably where I spend the most time.

Furthermore, Zuckerberg revealed a new AI tool-focused team in February, led by CPO Chris Cox. According to the release, the company is testing AI-powered chat on WhatsApp and Messenger as well as Instagram filters.

Although while Meta haven’t been as successful as hoped, the company still looks to be advancing the notion of using generative AI to create virtual worlds. Large language models (LLMs), such as OpenAI’s GPT-4 and Google’s PaLM, will aid in the production of 3D models because you only need to describe them, according to Bosworth, who spoke to Nikkei.

Therefore, in the past, I had to learn a lot of computer graphics and programming in order to develop a 3D environment. In the future, you might only need to define the universe you want to construct for the huge language model to produce it. Hence, it greatly increases the number of people who can access things like content creation, he said.

Although building a metaverse is part of the company’s long-term strategy, increasing ad income is likely more urgent. Meta suffered greatly following the introduction of Apple’s App Tracking Transparency feature in 2021. The social media corporation estimated that this change will cost them $10 billion by 2022 at the beginning of last year.

But, Meta is not the only business testing generative advertising. Using OpenAI’s DALLE-2 and GPT-3, Omneky, which gave a presentation at TechCrunch Disrupt the previous year, was developing campaigns. Movio uses generative AI to produce marketing films and is supported by IDG, Sequoia Capital China, and Baidu Ventures.
