Karachi Students Introduce Eco-Friendly, Portable Nebuliser for Affordable Respiratory Care

Students from the Pharmacy Department at the University of Karachi have created the world’s smallest rechargeable nebuliser, providing a portable solution for patients with respiratory issues. This innovative device, which measures less than an inch in width, delivers up to 35 minutes of respiratory therapy on a single charge, and the battery lasts for up to two days before requiring a recharge.

Designed with sustainability in mind, the nebuliser is eco-friendly and crafted from bioplastics. Its compact size makes it perfect for use in offices or while traveling. The device also offers modern features, such as micro-USB and USB-C charging capabilities, ensuring easy and convenient charging options.
Unlike traditional nebulisers, which are often bulky, noisy, and expensive, this model is wireless, soundproof, and costs less than Rs 2,000—significantly cheaper than most market options, which range from Rs 8,000 to Rs 10,000.

The team, led by Abdul Rahman Siddiqui, hopes their affordable and eco-friendly nebuliser will increase access to respiratory therapy for children, elderly patients, and those suffering from asthma or chest infections. By tackling common healthcare challenges, they aim to make a meaningful impact on the lives of those who need it most.

The project was developed by Abdul Rahman Siddiqui, Taha Ishaq, Syed Waliuddin, Syeda Arshiya, Zohaib Salman, Maham Zaidi, Priyan Khan, and Tuba Saleem, who are committed to addressing critical healthcare issues in Pakistan.
