A high-level meeting of the Committee for Digital Pakistan took place today, following special instructions from Prime Minister Mohammad Shehbaz Sharif. Co-chaired by Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, and State Minister for IT Shaza Fatima Khawaja, the meeting gathered key stakeholders to discuss strategies for fast-tracking Pakistan’s digital transformation.
Ahsan Iqbal emphasized the importance of innovation and technology to keep Pakistan competitive in the global market. He pointed out the government’s significant investments in youth development, notably the distribution of free laptops to over a million young people, helping Pakistan become the third-largest freelancing nation in the world.
The group also discussed the establishment of four technology and innovation centers across Pakistan, aimed at promoting research, development, and entrepreneurship. They stressed the need for a proactive approach to leverage e-commerce, AI, and other emerging trends.
Efforts to bridge the digital divide, expand internet access to remote areas, and launch a satellite in partnership with China were highlighted as key milestones. The Committee reaffirmed its commitment to building a knowledge-based economy and transforming Pakistan into a digital powerhouse.
The roadmap developed during the meeting will guide initiatives to boost digital literacy, foster innovation, and secure Pakistan’s digital future.
