Participating actively in the World Economic Forum (WEF) at Davos, Switzerland, from January 15 to 19, Caretaker IT Minister Dr. Umar Saif engaged in crucial sideline meetings with representatives from various international institutions and global organizations.
The primary agenda was to discuss efforts for promoting the “Digital Pakistan” brand on the global stage.
During a visit to Google House, Dr. Saif delved into generative AI technology discussions with Google’s Vice President Behshad Behzadi. Expressing optimism about bilateral cooperation, the focus was on effectively utilizing artificial intelligence at both public and private levels in Pakistan.
Highlighting ongoing collaboration, Dr. Umar Saif announced several projects aimed at leveraging the strengths of both the Ministry of IT and Google for Pakistan’s benefit. Emphasizing comprehensive cooperation in information and communication technology, the Minister underscored the readiness of DCO countries and Google for such initiatives.
In a broader context, Dr. Saif conveyed to international organizations that Pakistan is on track to become a ‘digital hub,’ showcasing global recognition of Pakistani talent in freelancing, skill development, and e-commerce. Notable interactions included discussions with Secretary General of Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO) Deemah AlYahya, Qatar’s Minister of Communications and IT Muhammad Bin Ali, and Rwanda’s Minister of Communications, Paula Ingabire, addressing mutual interests in the field.
Moreover, Dr. Umar Saif highlighted progress expectations in the Pakistan Startups Fund, shared cloud services among DCO member countries, and the commitment to promoting artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure within the DCO countries.
