Google for Education and Pakistan’s Ministry of Federal Education have announced a strategic partnership to bring digital transformation to millions of students in the country.
This partnership aims to improve access to education and support the development of a digital learning ecosystem for Pakistan’s tens of millions of students. Through Google for Education’s partner, Tech Valley, Google will collaborate with the Pakistani government to:
- Establish a local assembly of over 500,000 Chromebooks by 2026
- Provide digital tools and resources for students and teachers
- Train teachers to use technology effectively in the classroom
- Develop and implement innovative technology-based learning programs
Focusing primarily on out-of-school children in Pakistan, this collaboration comes after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif declared an “education emergency” last month. Moreover, to address the issue of over 26 million children being out of school, he committed to overseeing a national program aimed at enrolling these children back into educational institutions, urging provincial governments to support this initiative.
Furthermore, Allied, an Australian manufacturer of Google Chromebooks, will set up an assembly line in Pakistan. This move will make Chromebooks more affordable for educational purposes as well as ensure that every student has access to cutting-edge classroom technology, thereby enhancing their learning experience.
Ultimately, the collaboration between Google and the Ministry of Federal Education seeks to drive a large-scale digital transformation of Pakistan’s education system. Additionally, by creating smart classrooms and fostering a supportive learning environment, both partners aim to empower educators and students through upskilling, training, and building flexible smart classrooms.
