charity: water, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing clean and safe water globally, has teamed up with The Coca-Cola Foundation to launch a transformative water project in Pakistan’s Balochistan province.
This project aims to establish 372 new and rehabilitated community water points, ensuring access to clean water for over 3,500 people. Balochistan, Pakistan’s most arid and water-starved province, faces severe challenges, especially after the devastating floods of 2022.
The Coca-Cola Foundation, committed to economic empowerment and environmental sustainability, proudly supports this initiative alongside charity: water. “We believe in the power of partnerships to connect local expertise with global sustainable best practices, ensuring every drop of water counts, especially in regions where communities face climate-related water stress and lack municipal services,” said Saadia Madsbjerg, President of The Coca-Cola Foundation.
In collaboration with local partner Muslim Aid, charity: water and The Coca-Cola Foundation are dedicated to improving sustainable water access and sanitation in Balochistan’s underserved communities.
This project will bring clean water closer to home for thousands, enhancing community development and public health. Scott Harrison, founder and CEO of charity: water, expressed excitement about the partnership with The Coca-Cola Foundation. “Together, we will significantly impact the lives of thousands in Pakistan by ensuring reliable access to clean water, one of life’s essential resources,” he said.
Simultaneously, muslim Aid will play a key role in rehabilitating and implementing community and government water systems, building the capacity of relevant stakeholders to manage these systems sustainably and meet community needs. Bibi, a woman from a benefiting community, shared, “We face severe water shortages, traveling 1.5 kilometers twice daily to fetch water. Our storage capacity is inadequate, limiting our daily usage. The new water system will improve our lives by providing clean water at our doorstep, benefiting health, education, and safeguarding our children.”
Moreover, clean water can transform health and well-being, empower women and girls, open educational opportunities, and drive economic growth. However, 703 million people worldwide lack basic access, with 78% living in rural areas. Women and girls bear the burden of collecting water, collectively spending 200 million hours daily on this task, perpetuating a cycle of poverty and poor health.
This project is part of charity: water’s ongoing commitment to providing clean and safe water to those in need globally. With support from partners like The Coca-Cola Foundation and local organizations, charity: water continues to advance its mission.
