This Tuesday in Karachi, the L’Oréal Fund for Women and the women-led non-profit IT group CIRCLE celebrated the graduates of its Digital Literacy Program with the utmost fervor and zest.

The Internet Literacy Program seeks to provide financial literacy and access to the digital world for Pakistani women. From less fortunate families so they may take part in the online economy.

The L’Oréal Fund for Women supports expanding women’s participation in the expansion and improvement of the country.

Women in Pakistan currently make up only 25% of the working force and 1% of business owners. The teams want to have a positive influence on these figures through the joint Digital Literacy Program. Supporting activities and projects that will empower more women and close the gender gap.

Sima Kamil, the deputy governor of the State Bank of Pakistan, was the guest of honor at the event. Which was held at the Movenpick Hotel and was intended to honor and support outstanding women. Who were able to completely transform their lives by taking advantage of the program’s digital literacy training.

They were given the chance to engage in the online economy by getting access to the digital world and the skills necessary for doing so. Allowing them to flourish in their respective industries and maintain the level of digital proficiency required in this day and age.

The ability to network within their community of women and with other groups that can help them in their business endeavors is another benefit of this program.

With the assistance of UN Women, the Digital Literacy Program was developed in 2021 when the epidemic was still ongoing.

Launched in March 2022, the L’Oréal Fund for Women x CIRCLE Digital Literacy Program has taught 1,680 women in 30 cities throughout Pakistan so far. With more to come as part of a plan to train 5,000 women across Pakistan by the end of 2022.

The social and economic crises brought on by the Covid-19 epidemic continue to have a disproportionately negative impact on women globally today. The CIRCLE Digital Literacy Program has received a EUR 160,000 / PKR 32 million donation from the L’Oréal Fund for Women.

Projects aimed at assisting women with various vulnerabilities, particularly refugee women and women with disabilities, are given special consideration.

Beyond providing emergency relief, the L’Oréal Fund for Women prioritizes empowering women and girls. Notably by funding initiatives that promote social and professional integration and remove barriers to education.

Through L’Oréal for the Future and in preparation for their ambitious new sustainability program aimed at 2030. The company hopes to solve some of the greatest social and environmental concerns facing the planet. This three-year fund is a part of that effort.

With a number of activities falling under the worldwide L’Oréal for the Future program’s purview that have an influence on women, the environment, and respecting planetary limits. L’Oréal Pakistan is actively involved in sustainable and social efforts for Pakistani communities.

STAND UP by L’Oréal Paris aims to educate communities about street harassment. While brand-led initiatives like Garnier Green Beauty are focused on reducing the impact of plastic. Programs like Beauty For a Better Life, L’Oréal Professional Institute provide salon education to stylists from all backgrounds.

The L’Oréal Fund for Women is now supporting CIRCLE’s Digital Literacy Program. Which aims to improve the financial inclusion of women and communities in Pakistan.

Multiple Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) designated by the United Nations, including SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 8 (Inclusive Economic Growth). And SDG 17 will be accomplished through the relationship between the CIRCLE and L’Oréal Fund for Women (Partnerships).

Numerous well-known people attended the graduation ceremony and shared their opinions on the occasion.

Our perception of the world has altered as a result of digitization. Unfortunately, not every woman goes through this change. According to UN Women Pakistan’s Sharmeela Rassool, ensuring that women have equitable access to. As well as usage of digital technology is essential for their economic development.

“I am truly inspired by the stories shared by the graduates of the Digital Literacy Program in partnership with CIRCLE and L’Oréal Fund for Women, about their journey. And the positive impact of the program on their personal and financial empowerment,” said Sima Kamil, deputy governor of the State Bank of Pakistan. Furthermore, the State Bank of Pakistan is happy to support significant programs. That promotes women’s financial inclusion and economic development in Pakistan.

“At the State Bank, we participate in daily discussions about the challenging economic climate in Pakistan and throughout the world. But being here and seeing wonderful constructive steps taken for women’s empowerment gives immense hope and optimism for our future,” she continued.

L’Oréal Pakistan’s Managing Director, Junaid Murtaza, addressed the occasion and the graduates, saying, “We cooperated with CIRCLE to further our goal towards women empowerment as a company. Simultaneously, we are really happy and proud to honor the Karachi participants. Who completed the L’Oréal Fund for Women x CIRCLE Digital Literacy Program.

Moreover, She said, “This event also gives us a chance to recognize the accomplishments of our female alumni. And to think about the benefits their abilities will have on their families, communities, and personal lives.”

According to Sadaffe Abid, the founder of CIRCLE, “Digital literacy and internet access are fundamental human rights. I’m thrilled to recognize the accomplishments of our female alumni who have demonstrated the will to master digital technologies. And launch microbusinesses in order to provide economic security for their families. Families benefit and Pakistan’s economy grows when our women do well.

The initiative enables many women from underprivileged backgrounds to access opportunities they would not otherwise have and the chance to improve their life.
