According to analytics company Similarweb, ChatGPT, the enormously well-liked AI chatbot introduced in November. It experienced a fall in monthly website traffic and unique visitors for the very first time ever in June.

Global desktop as well as mobile access to the ChatGPT homepage fell by 9.7% in June compared to May. While the proportion of distinct visitors decreased by 5.7%. According to a data from Similarweb, the length of time users stayed on the website decreased by 8.5%.

Requests for comment from OpenAI were not immediately given a response. Two months after its launch, ChatGPT sparked a frenzy in the usage of generative AI for routine tasks ranging from typing to programming and reached a hundred million monthly active users.

It is one of the top 20 websites in the world with over 1.5 billion monthly visits, making it the most successful consumer application ever. For example, ChatGPT has significantly outperformed Bing, the Microsoft-operated search engine that makes use of OpenAI technologies.

OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, called the operating expenses for the services “eye-watering.” Several ChatGPT rivals have been released recently, including Google’s Bard chatbot. Users can access a free chatbot built by OpenAI on Microsoft’s Bing search engine.

There would be less precision because of the extremely complex infrastructure. According to Macquarie’s Sarah Hindlian-Bowler, who is in charge of technology research in the Americas, “it’s a mixture of having modifying what the system is instructed on and having to engage with the potential consequences of regulation.”

Google released its Bard chatbot earlier this year as a competitor to ChatGPT. OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, called the operating expenses for the services “eye-watering.”

Users of ChatGPT can use GPT-4, OpenAI’s more sophisticated model, by subscribing to a premium service for $20 per month.
Around 1.5 million users have subscribed, based on the most recent figures from YipitData.
