Amir Khan, President & CEO of HBL Microfinance Bank LTD., has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Pakistan Microfinance Network (PMN). With over 32 years of experience in consumer and commercial banking, Khan is ready to steer PMN toward new heights of growth and innovation in the microfinance industry.
Since 2012, Khan has led HBL Microfinance Bank, positioning it as a top player in Pakistan’s microfinance sector. He is actively involved as an Executive Committee Member and Chairperson of the Microfinance Banks Subcommittee at the Pakistan Banks’ Association, while also being a part of the Microfinance Consultative Group. His long-standing association with PMN, having served as a Director since 2012 and previously chairing the Board of Directors Policy Committee, underscores his dedication to advancing the sector.
Throughout his career, Khan has held leadership positions at major institutions like Standard Chartered, ABN AMRO Bank, and Royal Bank of Scotland. He also served as CEO of Mobilink Microfinance Bank Ltd, where he played a pivotal role in establishing the bank as a leader in the industry. Khan holds an MBA from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Karachi.
PMN CEO Mohsin Ahmed expressed his confidence in Khan’s leadership, noting that his deep expertise in microfinance will significantly benefit PMN and its member organizations as they continue to strengthen financial inclusion across Pakistan.
In his opening address to the Board of Directors, Khan thanked the outgoing Chairman, Kabeer Naqvi, for his invaluable contributions to the sector. He emphasized the importance of collaboration among member organizations, stating, “Building a sustainable and growing sector requires us to work together, share challenges, and develop strategies for the future under the PMN platform.”
Khan’s leadership is expected to drive innovation, expand financial inclusion, and further the growth of Pakistan’s microfinance sector.
