Pakistan has skyrocketed to a Tier-1 (Role-Modelling) status, now proudly ranked among the top 40 nations in the Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI) 2024, issued by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). This leap is remarkable, as the country previously held the 79th spot.
"This tremendous achievement highlights Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to fortifying its cybersecurity infrastructure, especially in the IT and telecom sectors," the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) announced in a press release.

The PTA emphasized that the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT), along with PTA and other critical stakeholders, spearheaded this groundbreaking success.
Key initiatives fueling this transformation include the Cyber Security Policy, CERT Rules, Critical Telecom Data and Infrastructure Security Regulations (CTDISR), a comprehensive Cybersecurity Strategy, and routine cybersecurity audits across the telecom sector.
Additionally, the establishment of the National Telecom Security Operation Centre (SOC) and National Telecom CERT has dramatically bolstered Pakistan’s security stance. These entities enable real-time information sharing, efficient incident handling, and rapid-response coordination, further enhancing the nation’s cybersecurity posture.
"Local telecom operators’ commitment to international cybersecurity standards has fortified Pakistan’s defenses against cyber threats," the PTA added.
The MoITT and PTA reaffirm their dedication to maintaining a secure, resilient cyberspace for Pakistan's future.
