Dr. Umar Saif, the Caretaker Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunications, inaugurated Pakistan’s first e-Rozgar Center in Islamabad, partnering with Excel Consulting Services. The center boasts 100 fully-equipped workstations, with plans to expand to 300 in the future.
During his address, the minister highlighted the commencement of the nationwide initiative to establish 10,000 e-rozgar centers officially. He emphasized fulfilling promises to facilitate the 1.5 million existing and prospective freelancers, providing them with affordable independent workspaces.
The center offers essential amenities such as high-speed internet, UPS, training facilities, private cabins, meeting rooms, and dedicated startup office spaces. Dr. Saif projected a potential $10 billion annual increase in IT exports upon completion of the project, foreseeing a significant boost in freelancer capacity and income through public-private partnerships managed by the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB).
Acknowledging the rapid progress made during the caretaker tenure, Dr. Saif credited the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) for enabling critical decisions in the IT and Telecom sectors. Moreover, He expressed optimism for the continuity of efforts in fostering Pakistan’s digital economy under the upcoming government.
The event saw the participation of key officials including Additional Secretary MoITT Ayesha Moriani, Member IT Syed Junaid Imam, Project Director Amir Ahmed, Chairman EC Services Nazir Qureshi, alongside representatives from MoITT, NTS, PSEB, and numerous freelancers.
